Labor Day DUI

The waning days of summer and early days of fall are marked by familiar sights and sounds: gradually shorter daylight hours, children’s last concerted efforts at all-day play prior to heading back to school, a flurry of family cookouts leading up to Labor Day.
This year, streets and roadways across Washington will feature an additional presence, and one that is hard to miss: saturation DUI patrols in great force on the lookout for drunk motorists in what is typically the most dangerous time of the year for accidents involving alcohol- or drug-impaired drivers.
The intent of the law enforcement initiative entitled “Drive Hammered, Get Nailed” is clear enough. The campaign is the state’s largest-ever crackdown on drinking drivers, involving more than 170 agencies from across the state. It commenced in mid August and will run through Labor Day.
